荒物屋や削り節の店として使われてきた、築１２０年の町屋をリノベーションしたコーヒー屋さんです。約11カ国20種類の豆を取り扱っており、注文をしてからその場で生豆から焙煎してくれます。焙煎を待っている間の一杯コーヒーを淹れてくれます。 縁側のような席の配置やお飾りのインテリアにもこだわりを感じます。

なんと言ってもおすすめは、コーヒーと食べる和菓子です。 季節ごとに特別な和菓子も変わるので、毎回チェックするのが楽しみでした。 春は、苺大福や桜の和菓子が美しく、また美味しく頂けます。お皿は、熊本のアーティスト　高光俊信・幸子氏の「OPEN STUDIO」　https://hotoli.jp/user_data/brand/openstudio　のものです。

This is my top recommendation for coffee and Japanese sweets in Kumamoto. Their wagashi changes with seasons. In spring (while I was there), the ichigo daifuku and ohagi were beautiful and delicious. Their distinctive metal plates are from Kumamoto artist Toshinobu Takamitsu and Sachiko’s “OPEN STUDIO” https://hotoli.jp/user_data/brand/openstudio.

泰勝寺は、肥後国熊本藩主・細川家の菩提寺。 今はお寺ではなく、「泰勝寺跡」として知られています。 料理家の細川亜衣氏が主催するお料理教室に参加できます。 泰勝寺の元僧坊・アトリエ〈taishoji〉は、寺の待ち合い所だった建物で 2013年に、〈taishoji〉の厨房と食堂は16年に、古い建物を生かしながら改装したそうです。 キッチンから溢れる光や縁側の木漏れ日は、とても綺麗で時間をふと忘れてしまいそうになりました。

Taisho-ji is a family temple of the Hosokawa clan, the former lord of the Kumamoto domain in Higo Province. It is not in use and is now known as the “Taishoji Temple Ruins”. You can participate in a cooking class hosted by the cook Ai Hosokawa. In 2013, the kitchen and dining room of Taishoji were renovated while preserving the rest of the building. The light overflowing from the kitchen and the sunbeams on the porch were so beautiful that I almost forgot the time. 化学調味料を使わず薬味や厳選された塩や胡椒のみで表現される繊細な料理に、美を感じます。 ご一緒した方々によるとスイーツもおすすめだそうで、季節によって変わる料理教室のお知らせにいつも心が踊ります。

I feel the beauty of the delicate dishes that are expressed only with natural ingredients and simple salt and pepper. According to the people I went with, the sweets are also good, and I am always excited about the cooking classes that rotate with the seasons.

季節の果物をふんだんに使ったパフェのお店です。季節ごとに食べられるパフェが変わります。また、私の季節のおすすめは冬に出される生姜ジャムチャイラテです。 ジンジャージャムは、店頭でも購入可能です。（すぐになくなってしまうので、即購入してください！笑）

A parfait shop that uses plenty of seasonal fruits. Also, my seasonal recommendation is the ginger jam chai latte, which is served in winter. Their ginger jam can also be purchased over the counter. (It will be gone soon, so please buy it immediately! Lol)

路面電車が止まるすぐ横に小さなフレンチレストランがあります。喫茶店営業をしている時期があり、私のおすすめはスイーツです。 日によりますが、手作りのプリンやケーキがとても美味しいのです。

There is a small French restaurant right next to the tram stop. Their desserts are very good. The menu changes frequently, but I recommend their homemade pudding and cake if they have it.

ローカルの居酒屋さん。葱がたくさんかかった厚揚げのお豆腐は、２、３皿一気に食べれてしまいます。熊本名物、辛子蓮根や馬刺しも食べれます。 おすすめも季節ごとに変わるので、カウンターに座って料理長と話しながらお酒を飲むのも◎　日本酒も豊富で、九州の地酒も楽しめます。（すだちサワーもおすすめです！）

An izakaya favored by locals. Recommend their atsuage tofu with a lot of green onions. You can also eat Kumamoto’s specialties, Karashi Renkon and horse sashimi here. Recommendations change with the seasons, so you can sit at the counter and have a drink while talking to the chef. ◎ There is a nice selection of alcohol, particularly local sake from Kyushu. (Their Sudachi sour is also recommended!)

熊本駅の外観のデザインコンセプトは、安藤忠雄氏が設計。熊本城の石垣の「武者返し」という反りなどをイメージしたらしく、コンクリートではなかったのがとても驚きです。 調べてみなければ安藤氏の建築とは気づかないと思います。

Tadao Ando designed the exterior of Kumamoto Station. It resembles the stone wall of Kumamoto Castle called “warrior return”. It looks different from most of Ando’s work, and his usual motifs are only noticeable if you look up.

設計は、安藤忠雄氏。打放しコンクリートと自然光が美しく差し込みます。 古墳群と周辺環境をも、一体として見せようとした環境博物館であり、前方後円墳の形をしています。 展望台から眺める古墳群とガラス張りのスロープを楽しんでください。

Designed by Tadao Ando. this beautiful museum consists of exposed concrete in the shape of an ancient tumulus. Enjoy the view of the tumuli and the glass slopes from the observatory.

濃厚な豚骨魚介に複数の唐辛子を調合した辛味噌をブレンドした魚雷つけ麺を是非食べてみてください！激辛好きにたまりません。 豚骨と魚介の旨さも感じるのに辛くて汗がダクダク。。。〆のスープ割りも忘れずに。とてもお腹がいっぱいになるので、空腹で行くのをおすすめします。 また、お昼は必ず並ぶのでランチタイム終了ギリギリがおすすめです。

Famous for their tonkotsu tsukemen (dipping noodles), which is a blend of spicy miso, rich pork bones, bonito, and lots of chili peppers! Only visit if you can handle the heat! It’s spicy and sweaty to feel the deliciousness of pork bones and seafood… When you finish the noodles, you can add dilute the soup to drink afterwards. It’s quite filling, so I recommend going hungry. There is usually a line during lunch time, so it is recommended to go befoer opening or after the lunch rush.

黒川温泉の中で一番おすすめの宿です。接客もとても丁寧です。温泉街の中心から少し離れていますが、そこが特にいいのです。露天風呂は、とても綺麗で風情があります。 日帰りで熊本から行く場合、温泉巡りは３時前に行くと宿泊と同じ露天風呂で楽しめます。もしも、３時を過ぎてしまっても貸切風呂が離れにあります。 景色は、ありませんがゆっくりした時間を過ごすことができます。

This is my top recommended inn for Kurokawa Onsen. The customer service is amazing. It’s a little far from the center of the hot spring town, but it’s worth the trip. The open-air bath is very beautiful and tasteful. If you go from Kumamoto on a day trip, you can enjoy the hot spring tour in the same open-air bath as your stay if you go before 3 o’clock. Even if it’s past 3 o’clock, there is a private bath you can rent. The private bath doesn’t have much scenery, but you can spend a relaxing time there.

温泉街の川端通りにあるご飯やさんです。５０年の歴史があり、だご汁や地鶏めしなどが楽しめます。 温泉を楽しんだ後に、ご飯と冷たいビールを！

季節によって全く違った景色を楽しむことができます。初夏には阿蘇山の緑はとても青々とした緑で包まれます。 また、火山の爆発によってできた凹地の阿蘇カルデラ。阿蘇山の全景がお釈迦様が横たわっている姿に見えることで阿蘇の涅槃仏と呼ばれています。 黒川温泉に車でいける場合には、是非とも米塚や大観峰に立ち寄っていただきたいです。

The colors of the caldera totally change depending on the season. In early summer, the view of Mt. Aso is surrounded by very lush greenery. It is called the Reclining Buddha of Aso because the whole view of Mt. Aso looks like a Buddha lying down. If you can drive to Kurokawa Onsen, please drop by the Komezuka and Daikanbo landmarks.
