瀬戸内海に浮かぶ島々、小豆島・豊島・直島・男木島・女木島。
３年に一度、芸術祭が行われるアートを巡る島々。期間外でも存分に楽しめることができるので、
瀬戸内海芸術祭を機に建てられた美術館やアート作品を訪れました。
瀬戸内の香川県側の高松港と岡山県側の宇野港という２つのルートがありますが、
宇野港から直島と豊島の２日間ルートをご紹介します。
瀬戸内海で釣れた魚や美しく実るオリーブを現地のレストランで堪能し、朝から晩まで美術館や展示を楽しむことができます。
宇野港からフェリーで直島に着くと、草間彌生氏の「赤かぼちゃ」藤本壮介氏の「直島パヴィリオン」 がお出迎えしてくれます。
１日目は、アクティブにまわりますが、２日目は山と海を感じてアートを楽しんで欲しいと思います。
直島から豊島までフェリーで向かうと、直島とはまた違った雰囲気を楽しむことができるからです。
島いっぱいに広がる唐櫃棚田緑のグラデーションが海まで続き、息をのむほどの美しい風景です。
何故か懐かしく感じる、瀬戸内の自然を体験することができます。
Naoshima, Teshima, Shodoshima, Ogijima, and Megijima are five islands in the Seto Inland Sea. Once every three years, the islands celebrate a big art festival. Even if you don’t make it to the festival, the islands have many works of art museums that are enjoyable to visit.
There are two ways to get to Naoshima, the most developed of the islands: The first is to take a ferry from Uno Port in Okayama Prefecture, which can be reached by train from Okayama city, on the main Shinkansen route. The second is to fly into Takamatsu on Shikoku island, and take a ferry from there.
This guide is for a two-day route to two of the islands, Naoshima and Teshima. Enjoy fresh fish caught in the Seto Inland Sea as well as the local specialty, delicious olives. There are many museums to visit from morning until night!
When you arrive at Naoshima from Uno Port, you will be greeted by Kusama Yayoi’s famous “red Pumpkin” as well as Fujimoto Sosuke’s “Naoshima Pavilion”.
The first day is meant to be active, but the second day is designed to relax and enjoy the mountains and sea. If you take a ferry from Naoshima to Teshima, you can enjoy a different atmosphere from Naoshima.
Teshima has picturesque terraced rice paddies that descend into the shore. There is a strange, nostalgic feeling to the nature of the Seto Inland Sea.

大竹伸朗が手がける銭湯美術施設。外観や内装のモザイク画なども面白いので、一度体験してみてください。
A public bath art facility operated by Shinro Ohtake. Both the exterior and interior mosaics are to look at.

「角屋」（1998年）に始まり、「角屋」「南寺」「きんざ」「護王神社」「石橋」「碁会所」「はいしゃ」の7軒が公開されています。空き家の空間様々なアーティストが作品に仕上げています。特に、設計は、安藤忠雄設計James Turrell 「南寺」 ”Backside of the Moon”と
大竹伸朗 「舌上夢／ボッコン覗」は、必見です。
There are seven buildings to visit along the route: “Kadoya”, “Nanji”, “Kinza”, “Gouo Shrine”, “Ishibashi”, “Gokaisho” and “Haisha”. These unoccupied houses are the work of various artists. In particular, some were designed by Tadao Ando, James Turrell, and Shinro Otake.「舌上夢／ボッコン覗」is a must-see.

安藤忠雄氏の建築に李禹煥氏のアートが堪能できる最高の美術館です。ひんやりとしたコンクリートの壁に囲まれた数々のアートは、直島の自然とも調和しています。
This is Lee Ufan’s best collection. housed in a site designed by architect Tadao Ando. Numerous artwork surrounded by minimal concrete walls sit in harmony with the nature of Naoshima.

地中美術館は、2004年に設立されました。クロード・モネ、ジェームズ・タレル、ウォルター・デ・マリアの作品がみることができます。自然光が降り注ぐ時間帯のみ開館しています。時刻によって、作品の表情が変わります。
クロード・モネが手掛けた最晩年の「睡蓮」シリーズ5点、ジェームズタレル「オープン・スカイ」は、必見です。静かな空間の中でゆっくりと巨匠のアートを楽しむことができます。
Chichu Art Museum was established in 2004. You can see the works of Claude Monet, James Turrell and Walter de Maria here. The museum is entirely lit by sunlight and is open only during natural light hours, and the impression of the work changes depending on the time of day. Both Claude Monet’s last five “water lilies” series and James Turrell “Open Sky” are must-sees. Due to the remoteness of the museum, these masterpieces can be enjoyed in serenity.

瀬戸内海を眺めながら滞在できるこのホテル内には、美術館があり２０作品以上の作品を楽しめることができます。テラスに飾られた、杉本博司氏の作品『タイム・エクスポーズド』を鑑賞しながら迎える朝は、最高です。
This hotel overlooking the Seto Inland Sea is also a museum housing over 20 significant works of art. It’s great to wake up to Hiroshi Sugimoto’s work “Time Exposed” right outside your room’s balcony.

夜ご飯におすすめです。（予約をおすすめします。）季節によって、メニューが違うので、その時期にとっておきの食材を堪能することができます。
Recommended for dinner. (Reservation is recommended.) The menu varies depending on the season, so you can enjoy the special local ingredients for that season in its cozy atmosphere. The drinks are good as well.

雨の降る日に豊島に着くと、島でたった一人のタクシーのおじさんが「雨の日にここへ来られて運がいいね」と言われました。（この作品は、撮影禁止。全貌を全く理解していなかった私は、どうして雨の日に来てよかったと言われたのか不思議でした。）
水滴をモチーフとした独特の建築。雨が降り、建物から湧き出る雫は、神秘のように美しかったのです。
建築家 西沢立衛氏 / アーティスト 内藤礼氏 の自然と建築、アートが融和した作品です。
美術館の周りは、棚田に囲まれており、丘の上からの眺めはジブリのアニメのような景色です。

When we arrived at Teshima on a rainy day, the only taxi driver on the island said, “You’re lucky to see it on a rainy day.”
It is forbidden to film or photograph it. But the beads of water collecting on the floor were enhanced by the rain.
The architecture is unique and designed with a water drop motif in mind. The rain was falling and the droplets coming out of the building were as beautiful they were mysterious.
This is a work that unites nature, architecture and art. The museum is surrounded by rice terraces, and the view from the top of the hill is like a scene from a Ghibli anime.

豊島美術館にあるカフェとストアです。美術館内が写真禁止なので、思い出にポストカードなど購入できます。
This is the café and gift shop for the Teshima Art Museum. Because photography is prohibited in the museum, you can buy a postcard here for a memory.
